DIY Green Roofs

During past Canopy events we've heard from a variety of experts on the challenges facing those interested in creating a 'commercial' Green Roof on their next major project or development.
But what about those people who in spite of all the potential pitfalls just went ahead and did it anyway?

Join us at the next Canopy: Melbourne Green Roof Forum to find out how two of our fellow Canopy attendees did just that...
Brod Street's Green Roof

Brod Street - A Senior Policy Officer with the Built Environment team at DSE, Brod Street was determined to include as many sustainable building technologies as possible when it came time to renovate his Hawthorn terrace. Come along to hear about Brod's intensive vegetable & Herb rooftop garden, the construction methods used, how much water it consumes and the costs and challenges involved.

John Rayner - John will be a familiar name to many Canopy attendees through his ongoing research into Green Roofs at the University of Melbourne Burnley Campus. Used to working with a research grant, long timelines and an army of undergraduates, John recently swapped all this for a weekend, a length of pool-liner and some fellow parents to build a green roof on the chook shed at his kid's school.

Have you embarked on a similar small scale green roof or wall? If you'd be interested in sharing your experience with the canopy group we'd love to hear from you! Simply contact matthew.willcox@melbourne.vic.gov.au and he can fill you in on the details.

Following the presentations we'll have our traditional 'open mic' session where you can ask a question, plug your business or share your experience with Green Roofs in Melbourne. Finger food will be served and drinks will be available to purchase at the bar.
